This will be my last post until I can get connected again at my new place.

Hmm, as I sit here and try to think about something to say about my outfit I can only think of all the things that still need to get done before the big day. Better than staring blankly at the screen I think I just better get back to work. Have a great weekend!

I haven't been very good about posting because I've been busy packing and taking care of all those errands that come with moving! I'm very excited about my new place. Its an apartment, so I won't have the big back yard with the shed and the big shady tree anymore, but I also won't have to be taking care of the big back yard raking the leaves from the big shady tree anymore. My new place is all about location; downtown! (can you hear the song playing?). Its like a little distant light with the hope of a new beginning. I can't wait to decorate it and make it my own.

I love children birthday parties; the colors, the balloons, children running and playing, and the fun themes. My nephew and I were invited to two today. The first one we attended was of a pirate theme, and the second (the one that I dressed for) was of a Willy Wonka theme. The pattern on this skirt looks just like the pattern on those multi colored suckers. YUM!

All of these are some of my favorite items currently in my closet. Right now I'm really liking high waisted anything, high shoulder pads, blazers, pleather (leather makes me sad), platforms, loose fitting trousers, and knits. Good thing I've learned how to shop and and can get these otherwise pricey items for a steal. Craftiness comes in handy as well, I got these trousers at the thrift store, I just shortened them and added a hem.

Mine... $3
Theirs ... $500+

I believe that having style is knowing how to break the rules of fashion. One of my favorite rules to break are "themes". Mixing themes together is far more interesting. I specially like mixing sweet looking items with though looking ones. Hence the lacy dress with the army jacket and black tights.

Speaking of mixing themes...

Here is one of my projects from this weekend. Unfortunately I only have the after picture because I accidental erased the before picture along with all my outfit pictures (these are retakes) :( Its an antique chair that my dad gave to me. I usually wouldn't dream of altering an antique and ripping it from its originality but this was in pretty bad shape. The brown paint form the metal frame was pealing and the blue velvet on the seat had seen better days. So I gave it a new coat of paint and reupholstered it with an unexpected print.

As inspired by...

Magnificent! So not keeping with the pretty antique theme, but at $800+ I can only dream

Les Khakis De Chanel
, the new fall collection will be available in stores September 10 2010. Each sublime little bottle will be retailing for $25.00. Khaki Brun is my favorite, which will you try first?

See those fists? They're ready to defend my stance. Why do I wear this mini? "Because I can!" Someone once tried to tell me that I couldn't wear it and it didn't go so well.

Andres was a little boy who loved playing games and was motivated by them during our group time. He enjoyed his friends at school and preferred when we got pineapple for snack. He liked picking books for me to read to him, the ones in Spanish were his favorite.
I will hold him in my heart dearly.

I'm not too sure about the appropriateness of this skirt for work, but I couldn't resist from wearing it any longer. I guess I pulled it off alright since I got a couple of compliments :) I did feel way cute in it. My booties are also new! I have been wanting a pair of booties like these, with a blunt thick wedge, and finally found them for a steal! Not that they're outrageously expensive to begin with, but these days money is tight.

This is my brand new Betsey Johnson dress, thrifted for $6.99! I felt like the luckiest girl in the world when I saw it hanging on that rack, and even more so when I tried it on and it fit! The excitement was short lived however, when a couple of days later as I was hand washing the dress I discovered a security ink tag attached to the bottom of it. With all my excitement I missed noticing the security tag when I tried it on :( There was no point taking it back to the thrift store, I knew they didn't have the machine to remove it. I decided to take it to a retail store and politely ask them to remove the ink tag off my dress. You can imagine the looks I got and the many questions that followed. I left very insulted. Then I decided to Google "how to remove an ink security tag" and Voila! an innocent girl with the skills of a criminal in a fabulous Betsey Johnson dress.

Summer break is over, the kids are back to school and that means I'm back to work. Like in the rest of my life, there were also some changes at work over the summer. I will no longer be in the schools, instead I will be housed at the administrator building. Too bad this change didn't come with a raise :( I do however like my new little home. TV makes working at a cubicle seem so sad, but I am actually really enjoying it. I love my neighbors, I'm not too sure about the one who put that plastic plant up there though. I'm also excited about making this little cubicle my own with hip office supplies and pictures :D I'm very tempted to come in early one morning and re-enact that scene of the Matrix where Neo runs from cubicle to cubicle. I did arrive a little extra early today, but it was only to take these pictures.

It was a lovely Sunday with my family, not even the tare on my pants I got pedaling around on a Deuce Coupe was able to ruin the day. I had actually just taken these out of my clothes swap pile to wear one last time. However, since my dad complimented me on my outfit I have decided to keep the top. My dad has rarely complimented me on my clothes or things of that nature, only on "important" things like academics and accomplishments, so he must have really been impressed. I don't take his lack of attention to detail personally, he's a hard working Mexican man whit a biography I'm sure could make a best seller.

This dress was another thrift store find. When I first saw it the long length and the shade of blue reminded me of the Cinderella dress. I really felt like Cinderella when I was shortening it (the scene where she and the animals are sewing her ballgown). It was my first shortening/hemming job, so I was a little nervous to do it myself, specially because of the pleats and because I was gonna be sewing it by hand, but it turned out pretty good. My success has inspired me to purchase a sewing machine, hopefully soon I'll be wearing more personalized garments.

Another one of my thrift store jackpot dresses. It's 100% silk, very light and cool. I love the Japanese flare pattern, I felt like I was wearing a modern day kimono. I wore it the morning before going camping. I had to run some errands downtown and new this would be my last chance to look cute for a couple of days. Plus, downtown just inspires fashion.

I'm super excited about this blog post, being that I got to wear a one of a kind, truly couture, Funky Orange dress to Denver's Fashion Flash Mob! The event was held to represent the fashion community as part of the Biannual of the Americas. It had a great turn out! We have so many amazing and creative designers here in Colorado. I often complain about how most people here dress like they're gonna pick up and go camping next, but the fashion community seems to be growing quickly and I can't wait until it explodes. It was also invigorating to see that the event attracted some media and many curios bystanders. I felt so privileged to have been part of the event and to have been representing Desiree's Funky Orange designs with this standout charming dress. I felt so innovative in it and it breaks my heart that I have to return it today.

OK so I might not be full-on 90's, but I did my best. Some friends and I dressed in theme to go see Clueless at Red Rocks. Such a classic! But boy was the weather forecast wrong. Instead of clear sunny skies we got pouring rain, almost throughout the entire length of the movie. We toughed it out though. What? Did you think we'd leave? As if!!
